LINSKENS CATFISH 46

iYacht has developed a modular yacht together with Gielissen Linskens, which is not only optionally configurable in terms of size and equipment, but also takes a completely new approach to production. Peter Linskens, founder of the shipyard of the same name, approached iYacht to develop a new series. The task was initially quite simple and quickly described: the ships were to be steel ships with lengths of 10, 12 and 14 meters in the typical Dutch layout with an aft cabin.

In the meantime, the Dutch Gielissen Group had joined the shipyard. The Hamburg designers had to adapt to a different way of working and thinking, but could also choose from an almost unlimited number of surfaces and material combinations. The idea of using interior modules for all ships came up during the first design sketches. The first divisions were literally sketched on a blank sheet of paper, transferred to the CAD model and detailed step by step until a feasibility study was available. It was then clear to everyone involved that it would work.

The project was governed by a very tight schedule. It took exactly one year from the development of the construction concept to the design and construction to the delivery of the first ship. The yachts themselves offer the possibility of being optimally configured for the charter market thanks to their modular construction. This is where Gielissen’s experience comes into play: particularly robust materials are used for the interior fittings. After the series-ready construction of the 14m variant, the two smaller sister ships have also been worked on in the computers of the Hamburg design office.
